Tackle World Moruya - Fishing Report

10 October 2012

Moruya River

VIP members Tom and Tim have been fishing the flats above Moruya River during the week catching plenty of flathead and bream. They both caught some large flathead on Squidgy Lobbys and Squidgy Stealth Prawns, with the flatties pushing the 65 cm mark. Tom out-fished his cousin Tim, chasing the bream on Strada Viral surface lures with Tom catching 6 bream between 30-40 cm and Tim catching 1 bream that measured 35 cm to the fork - all fish were caught and released. Team member Jade fished off town wharf before work on Wednesday morning where he was pleasantly surprised by a school of big trevally.  Jade was quick to rig up with plastic of choice being Gulp 2 inch shrimp trying to entice at least one trevally to have a go. As he was still fishing for the trevally he hooked, landed and released a personal best bream of 45 cm to the fork. VIP member Ziggy was just in telling us that he has been getting stuck into the tailor the last couple of days - he has been fishing from Quarry Wharf down to The Anchorage trolling deep diving lures.  A huge school of salmon has also been reported off Preddies Wharf with catches on Arma Anchovies and a mix of pillies.

Tuross

VIP members Tom and Tim also headed out into Tuross this week fishing for flathead from the four-ways down to the entrance. They landed over 30 undersize flathead on bloodworm wrigglers (all of course were released). There have been other reports of flathead up to 75cm being caught as well as good sized bream on the flats with some anglers catching up to 25 in a single session. There are some big jewfish being caught in the deep holes in Tuross with one lucky angler catching a monster which weighed in at 114 lb - it was caught out the front of the boatshed at 12:30 am last Sunday morning - others not quite so big have been caught on 100 mm Squidgy fish in the Black and Gold colour and Drop Bear colour.

Beaches and Rocks

There have been some good catches of salmon and tailor off the beaches but they are starting to slow down and move further along the coast. Good flathead and gummy sharks have been caught of an evening on squid and salted pillies. Racecourse beach seems to be the pick of the beaches this week.

Offshore

Big kingfish have been attacking the surface lures, in particular Cultiva Komachi 150 mm Poppers out the front of Moruya this week with reports of some of the fish getting over 1 m in length. Big snapper up to 5 kg, big mowies, rock cod and the odd big trevally in 35 m of water on squid and 140 mm Squidgy Wrigglers. Flathead are being pulled in off the back of the beaches with some good gummies and school sharks thrown in.
